WhatsApp, the most used instant messaging application in Spain, is developing a new privacy feature to configure an alternative profile, in this way, it will offer a more secure experience in order to protect the privacy of users.
As can be seen in the screenshot, the new alternative -or secondary- profile feature will be available within the privacy screen and will allow individuals to set up a different photo and an alternative name that will be visible to those contacts who cannot see the main profile information. For example, “if only your contacts can see your profile picture, this means that people outside your contact list cannot see it, but they will be able to see your alternative profile picture,” explains the specialized media WABetaInfo.
This has been verified by the aforementioned media after analyzing the update of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.4, which shows that this new feature is designed for those people who have configured access to their profile to certain users. Therefore, users who have configured that only the contacts saved in the address book can see the profile picture, will be able to create the secondary profile to show it to other users.
What is the WhatsApp secondary profile for?
The alternate profile feature adds a new layer of security and privacy to the user experience to have more control over the information. In addition, interested parties who choose to create a secondary profile will have to enter a completely alternative photo and name that will be displayed to users who are restricted from accessing the main profile.
How to use the alternative WhatsApp profile?
Users will have to follow these steps:
- Access the menu
- Select the three little dots on the top right hand side
- Go to settings
- Open privacy
- In the profile picture section, enter a new profile picture and the alternative name.
